Several of the world's most successful mathematicians and physicists have attended through the years and many of them choose to come back year after year finding that these seminar's encourage the discussion of ideas in a more relaxed and creative environment as opposed to the larger conferences. Focus is on dialogue and what these scientists have in common is the need to understand the foundations of our world or universe. This includes everything from the language of mathematics used to describe reality and physical phenomena, to the details present in complex quantum events. Another thing these scientists have in common is their interest in the work of physicist David Bohm. Several of the returning seminar participants actually worked with Bohm personally during some period in his lifetime. It really is thanks to David Bohm that Georg started to arrange these seminars.
The origin of these seminars goes back to 1988, when an international conference with David Bohm was held in Hyssna outside Gothenburg, Sweden. David Bohm was one of the leading figures in theoretical physics, notably quantum mechanics where he has formed a school of his own. The theme of this conference was the barriers to a free dialogue and the notions of significance, information and meaning as key factors of being. The conference was covered by a leading Swedish paper Svenska Dagbladet in 4 consequitive articles aug 2-5, 1988. Another result was the publication of the antology: The Search for Meaning, the new spirit in science and philosophy, edited by P Pylkkänen, thorsons publ group, 1989, Georg contributed to the chapter: The Mystery of Mathematics (pp 221-237).
Yearly, since 2004, mathematicians and physicists have been gathering in Åskloster in an atmosphere free from competition and conducive to a free exchange of ideas.
